SIRIUS WILDERNESS MEDICINE is a Canadian organization which was founded in
response to the increasing demand for comprehensive and realistic first aid training for
outdoor professionals. Since our inception in 1990, we have become established as a leader
in Canadian wilderness emergency medical training. Sirius Wilderness Medicine offers
various levels of wilderness first aid and medical training.
In addition to our regularly scheduled courses, we
have developed programs for commercial rafting outfitters, camp staff, universities,
outdoor programs, scout leaders, school boards and outdoor education centers. Sirius has
been involved with organizations across Canada in developing outdoor industry standards
and applications of Wilderness Prehospital Emergency Care. |

| Teaching
Environment |
| Sirius Wilderness Medicine courses offer a dynamic and
stimulating learning environment. All our courses incorporate experiential based learning,
lectures, focused personal instruction within small groups and indoor practical sessions.
A large percentage of the course is conducted outdoors and a hands-on approach is utilized
enhancing the retention of both skills and knowledge. |
|
Course content goes far beyond traditional first aid courses
which have as their foundation rapid access to ambulance services and medical care.
Students gain a clear understanding of body systems involved in wilderness accidents and
medical emergencies. Special emphasis is placed on leadership skills and accident scene
management. |
