Medical Support Personnel Job Opportunities


SIRIUSMEDx is currently seeking medical support personnel with general clinical experience and knowledge in occupational health to work with a dedicated team in Canada’s remote and arctic regions.

    Position #1:  Registered Nurse (RN)  Occasional Positions – Nunavut 

    Position details

    Medical support personnel (MSP) working with SIRIUSMEDx are clinical practitioners with an expanded scope of practice. They use their skills and expertise to provide emergency response, medical assessment, primary health care, injury prevention, health promotion, medical referral, and to coordinate emergency medical evacuations as needed for workers in Canada’s remote northern regions.

    The industrial MSP practises on site with limited resources, remotely located from tertiary care, and uses telemedicine to consult with other health professionals as required. MSP staff work in cooperation with the site supervisors, health and safety officers, and exterior medical professionals. The position requires the exercise of independent judgment and decision-making, adaptability, resourcefulness, and good physical fitness.

    Positions:  Registered Nurse (RN)

    Type: Occasional, available for replacement or to work on rotation period for seasonal projects (winter and summer)

    Schedule: 1 to 4 week-long rotations

    Location of Work: Various remediation, mining and exploration sites in the Canadian Arctic (Nunavut)

    Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible

     Qualifications / Minimum Requirements

    • Currently certified as a registered nurse (RN) in Nunavut/NWT or eligible to obtain a licence in Nunavut/NWT
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience in emergency care, occupational health and trauma experience
    • Excellent written and verbal English and good communication skills
    • Bilingual (French/English) an asset
    • Proficiency in use of medical records software and office software such as MS Word and Excel
    • Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and fit-for-duty exam.
    • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, TNCC or PHTLS, WHMIS / TDG and Standard First Aid an asset
    • Experience with coordination, preparation and implementation of air evacuations an asset

    • Currently certified as a registered nurse (RN) in Quebec with the OIIQ
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience in emergency care, occupational health and trauma experience
    • Bilingual (French/English) written and oral (an asset)
    • Proficiency in use of database software, medical records software and office software such as MS Word and Excel
    • Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and fit-for-duty exam.

    Position #4  Industrial Primary Care Paramedic (PCP)  Occasional Positions

    Position Summary

They use their skills and expertise to provide emergency response, medical assessment, primary health care, injury prevention, health promotion, medical referral, and to coordinate emergency medical evacuations as needed for workers at remote industrial, mining or remediation sites.

    The industrial MSP practises on site with limited resources, remotely located from tertiary care, and uses telemedicine to consult with other health professionals as required. MSP staff work in cooperation with the site supervisors, health and safety officers, and exterior medical professionals. The position requires the exercise of independent judgment and decision-making, adaptability, resourcefulness, and good physical fitness.

    Positions:  Industrial Primary Care Paramedic (PCP)

    Type: Occasional, available to work on rotation period for seasonal projects (winter and summer)

    Schedule: 1 to 4 week-long rotations

    Location of Work: Various sites in the Canada’s remote northern regions and other remote locations across Canada

    Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible

    Qualifications / Minimum Requirements

    • Currently certified as an primary care paramedic in Canada
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of primary care paramedic experience
    • Strong assessment skills
    • Experience in remote care, long-term care and occupational health and safety
    • Excellent written and verbal English and good communication skills
    • Bilingual (French/English) an asset
    • Proficiency in use of medical records software and office software such as MS Word and Excel
    • Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and fit-for-duty exam.
    • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PHTLS, WHMIS / TDG and Standard First Aid an asset
    • Experience with coordination, preparation and implementation of air evacuations an asset

    General Working Conditions

    The MSP must be willing to work 12 hours per shift and be on call 24 hours a day. The project requires that all staff work as a team to ensure that schedules are met and a safe work environment is maintained. All team members may be asked to perform duties not specifically identified in their primary position description. Work schedules and transportation are subject to delay and change due to weather conditions. Telephone, Internet and computer access available on site. Each new employee is trained by our team prior to departure and upon arrival on site. Medical, administrative and technical assistance is available for employees 24 hours per day to handle emergencies. 

    Remuneration

    • Competitive salary, to be discussed based on experience and qualification
    • Employees are paid for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for the entire duration of their rotation
    • Travel days and standby days are also remunerated
    • Payments are made bi-weekly by direct deposit
    • Possibility of continuing education
    • Transportation, meals and lodging are provided for the duration of the project
    • All medical equipment and supplies are provided

    Job Responsibilities and Duties

    MSP staff report to the site manager and  SIRIUSMEDx management team. In an emergency situation, the MSP member takes directives from our team of physicians and competent local medical authorities as needed, or proceeds according to standard emergency medical practices and our wilderness protocols. MSP staff should be able to:

    • Respond to all medical problems and emergencies
    • Carry out physician orders in respect to patient care if required
    • Assist in arranging emergency medical evacuations, as needed
    • Coordinate with local health officials in the event of a medical evacuation
    • Maintain records of accidents, illness and injuries including recommendations for measures to avoid illness and injuries
    • Supervise the inventory checklist, ordering, receiving and stocking of medical equipment, supplies, and medications of the first aid station
    • Submit patient care reports to the company
    • Complete forms, documentation and reports as required by the relevant workers’ compensation board and conduct any required follow-up
    • Maintain a daily log of activities and patient care
    • Ensure privacy for patients and confidentiality of personal information
    • Complete the camp opening, infirmary setup and camp closing activities as applicable
    • Provide medical, trauma and first aid care to injured and ill staff
    • Participate in camp health and safety committee and project management team
    • Assist the health and safety officer or Site Operations Manager in maintaining the health and safety plan and in keeping workers in good health
    • Plan and participate in safety orientation sessions, emergency drills and scenarios for emergency medical team
    • Assist in the maintenance of emergency plans
